In search of solutions to keep its employees more time in shape, the Deutsche Post has created the Postbot. It is a robot that looks like a wardrobe equipped with small wheels, capable of transporting up to 150 kilos of weight in envelopes and packages that it protects inside. A cart that usually pushes the postmen in the last phase of delivery can weigh 70 kilos.
These robots have been seen in recent weeks in Bad Hersfeld, a small town of about 30,000 inhabitants located in central Germany, on the banks of the Fulda River. The Deutsche Post test with these robots has been developed in neighborhoods where mail delivery is done on foot. The “Postboten” are able to keep up with the postmen to assist them in transporting the deliveries of the day. The idea is that these furniture-shaped robots carry the heavy loads of packages and mail following the postman during the delivery. The employee is saved, therefore, to take exhausting trips carrying trolleys or bicycles that go to the top of mail.
